Personal Experience Summary

I started my journey in higher education towards born out of the idea that I would like to do research in certain areas that affected me. In doing so, I would also be able to benefit society as well. The Foundations course has allowed me to strengthen my weaknesses in areas that I was currently unaware of and has also given me a template of what will be expected of me in my graduate studies at Walden University. I have also expanded my focus in the research areas that I am interested in. When I started my tenure at Walden University, I was focused on pursing my Ph.D. in Social Psychology. I look around and see many issues that affect me and I would like to be able to help out in some way. The Foundations course has given me the ability to discuss and strengthen my resolve as to why I would like to focus on those areas of research.

Since before I started my graduate studies, I was already involved in several psychological organizations. I plan to continue to be involved in those organizations and keep in contract with mentors that I have in the areas of interest that I am involved in. I am looking forward to gaining the knowledge and the skills necessary in order to carry out the Walden’s mission of social change and being an ethical scholar-practitioner.

This course allowed me to identify ways which will lead me to develop my abilities even further. Though it may not be specific to this course, one of the take home lessons that will stay with me is to be sure to communicate and know how important communication is key to success. Communication can make the difference between understanding and not understanding, as well as passing and failing.
