Analyzing an article for biased language

· Personal Essays

The article is an example of an article that does not contain biased language. Throughout the article, it is very apparent that Meeussen et al. (2014) refrained from errors that would be common amongst those exhibiting biased language in their research. As an example, when discussing ethnic identities, they used parallel racial and ethnic identity terms such as writing African American and then using White to describe European Americans (American Psychological Association [APA], 2012). Likewise, they were also sensitive to the cultures that they were describing. They were very specific as opposed to being descriptive when detailing the collection of their data by mentioning each group they collected data from (APA, 2012). From what I reviewed, they also refrained from generalizations and assumptions concerning their research when discussions each culture with regards to multiculturalism and colorblindness. The evidence is supported by other research and attributed to researchers who made the same conclusion that they did.
